Title: Strong Prompt: Angst, set after Hina asks Hitsu to save Aizen Pairing: Hitsugaya Toushiro x Hinamori Momo Characters: Hitsugaya, Matsumoto (Aizen, Hinamori, Ichimaru) Rating: G Genre: Angst written for moezychan beta: assassin_nariel
"Taichou?"
He didn't answer. Whatever it was, he didn't feel like answering anything at the moment.
"Taichou!" The voice sounded worried. "Are you there?"
"I am." He raised his head just enough from his knees to be heard.
A long, very long pause followed. "Won't you come in? It's getting late."
"I never do."
He knew the woman down there would let out a unhearable sigh. He knew how the look on her face would be.
He also knew she thought he didn't. She had long before noticed that he hated to be worried about, that he hated to be comforted. He couldn't really explain it, but... he was no child anymore. Hadn't been one for many years now. He really, really could handle things on his own, way better than if people medddled with his affairs. He downright hated that.
It made him weak.
And he knew far too well that he had to be strong.
For his division, that would soon have to face one of the hardest wars the Gotei 13 had ever waged.
For his vice captain, who had already enough own grief concerning that bastard Ichimaru - although Hitsugaya had never been able to figure out what kind of relationship they really had.
For Hinamori, who maybe suffered more than everyone else from the betrayal. The young captain knew himself quite well, and thus knew that he couldn't offer her much comfort. Nor anything else. He just was... not able to. He remembered having tried, back when they were children.
The older girl had been sitting outside, arms slung around her knees, crying. And Toushiro, who had still been Shiro-chan, had crawled out from under his sheets and out the room, cautious to not waken up their grandmother. he had had no idea what to do.
But he had figured that he just had to go and had to do something... he didn't want to see Momo cry.
But when he had, and had sat down next to her and asked why she was crying, she had just stifled her tears and tried to console him and told him to go back to sleep... Treated him as if he wasn't someone one would tell things to that were important. Treated him like the little child he had been.
Still was.
Hitsugaya hated his body. He hated his face. All those reasons people still pictured him as a child that he shouldn't have been anymore, not since many years. Treated him like one.
Didn't take him seriously.
Matsumoto wouldn't mention Gin around him.
They wouldn't let him talk to Hinamori.
Sure, she was still wrong about Aizen... She still adored that man she should have hated. But Hitsugaya would still have loved to talk to her. Maybe he could have helped... maybe...
But they protected him from those hard, those damn important things, just as Momo had tried to protect him from her sadness back then. They thought he wasn't strong enough to face it.
They thought he was too weak to help.
How could he do anything as long as they figured he would break if they got him involved?
That was why he had to become strong. Why he had to be strong. Why he couldn't allow himself to indulge into the comfort of others. Being pitied was a sign of weakness.
He had to be strong for his division.
For Matsumoto.
For Hinamori.
But most of all, for himself. How could he ever make Hinamori stop seeing him as a child but as the man he had become, if he didn't? |
