When he spotted Isshin, it was already too late. The man was waltzing towards him with the speed and force of a her of wild angered elephants- just that he didn't look angry but excited.
Yet Ryuuken actually considered running. He knew he was the faster one, and he had no intention to suffer from having to talk to that noisy person again. But and Quincy didn't run. Especially not because of an Shinigami attack Not even if it was a glomp one.
Not a muscle moved in the silver haired man's face when stumbled and nearly fell from the other's impetus. His face remained stoic, or rather, an expression of fatalistic disgust.
“Good Morning, Kurosaki.”
“Morni~ng, Ryuu-cha~n!” The man smiled widely, and once again Ryuuken wondered how few common sense a human could have. Just like himself, Isshin was an adult, a doctor, someone who should be respected by most and who should act up to it.Someone who really shouldn't behave like a four year old.
“Please could you let go of me?” His voice was pure ice.
“Ryuu-chan, what is it, you are so cold today~”
“And you are annoying.”
“I'm just concerned.” He dusted off his coat and straightened his shoulders. “I havn't seen you for weeks, and-”
He was silenced by the appearance of that orange haired Shinigami brat of him. The boy hadn't spotted them yet, but Ryuuken doubted that that would last for long. Not that he cared...
“Your son is back.”
“Yeah, since Friday, we just wanted to celebrate-”
“Alone?” Not that he cared. Really, really not. He didn't care about his foolish son who friended Shinigami. No. He really, really didn't.
.....
Uryuu sat in a corner of the room, hands clenched together in his lap, head hanging low. He didn't look very well, but most people would have been surprised to hear that he was still unharmed, at least as unharmed as one could be anywhere in Las Noches. For a simple reason.
Ulquiorra wanted him unharmed. Aizen didn't care.
In the beginning, it had been mere interest. The Quincy was different than all those around him, and the fact that he was the only one who hadn't died yet wasn't the reason. As much as the the boy was different from the Arrancar, he was similar to himself.
Equally calm. Equally demure. Equally intelligent. Both of them strongly disliked their fellow people's attitudes. Both of them didn't talk much and preferred solitude. Or, rather... used to.
The had found that they could converse very nice with each other. That they could have long talks or just sit together and remain silent for hours. They really enjoyed each others company. To have someone whom he liked to be around was something Ishida had experienced last when his grandfather still lived.
To the Espada, it was totally new.
Of course, he didn't mind being around Aizen-sama. The man was his god, and it was a blessing that he was allowed to be there. But it was intimidating as well, and...
This was the single thing about his life he hadn't talked about with Uryuu. They boy wouldn't have been pleased to hear about it... he would have become angry and agitated, and that was the only thing that Ulquiorra had come to fear in his life.
Because Ishida agitated meant that they became different. And he didn't want them to be different.
Plus, it might alarm his God that there was something developing between the two black haired men. And he was sure that the former captain wouldn't approve of it.
It had already become dangerous. He had to do something about it. He knew there was only one way to ensure the Quincy's safety. It would have been just logical to just follow this plan. Yet Ulquiorra hesitated.
He had no idea why. He had no feelings, so why was he that reluctant?
But Ishida had noticed him. He raised his head and smiled weakly. “Good morning.”
The Espada nodded. “Come here.”
It took the sitting man ages to get up, but finally he managed. “What...?”
No answer. Ulquiorra turned and Ishida followed. It wasn't too strange after all, they had been walking around like this before. But this time was different.
“Stand here.”
Ishida furrowed his eyebrows but obeyed. There was nothing else he could do. His eyes widened when he realized what the other was doing. “Why do you open a-” he didn't dare to hope. And at the same moment, he knew that he didn't want to leave. The wish was totally illogical. He didn't know why he wanted to stay; he was a reasonable man, this was a dangerous place, and he should have been glad to be given the possibility to escape it. Yet...
“You have to go back.” No explanation was offered, and Ishida knew that there wouldn't be one. Never. Not even if they ever met again.
They locked stares, looked into each others eyes. Neither of them said one more word. But they kept their eyes locked until the garganta had closed.
......
“What are you doing on the roof?”
Uryuu didn't turn around. He didn't answer, either. He hadn't talked to his father since he had come back from Hueco Mundo, not besides a short report on how his Quincy powers had developed and how they were now. And a short conversation about the fact that the younger Ishida would return to his fathers house. He hadn't wanted to, but, in the end, he had had to accept that there was no other option left. He had been away too long, his flat wasn't there anymore. He suspected his father to have given the flat away way too fast, but he couldn't do anything about it anymore.
But although they had been living together for months now, they hadn't exchanged a single word. He had heard how Ichigo's father had complained about their damn Quincy pride during one of his sporadic visits. But it wasn't that.
It wasn't that they didn't want to talk.
It was just that there wasn't anything to talk about between them.
But now, Ryuuken had clearly addressed him.
“I asked you something, son.”
“Stargazing.”
Silence. That remained, until Ryuuken left again.
There was nothing to talk about left to them. His father had wanted him back yet didn't care, and he himself... How about him, Uryuu wondered.
Maybe he just wanted to see those emerald green eyes that mirrored his own blue ones so perfectly again.
Maybe he just wanted to go back.
And never he could have told Ryuuken about that. |
